What is hCG?

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin or hCG is a hormone that is naturally found in both men and women. hCG can be used as part of a weight loss plan to help patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight. At Metrolina Medical Associates, we offer the hCG diet and weight loss program in Rock Hill and Charlotte.

Experience hCG for weight loss

The hCG diet is done under the guidance of a medical professional. It involves injections of hCG and severe calorie restrictions. Patients consume just 500 calories per day. While it does not focus on meal plans or physical activity, the goal is to achieve fast weight loss.

With hCG injections, your body is triggered to release up to 2,500 calories or more from your fat stores each day. Assuming you normally eat 2,000 calories per day, you limit calories by 1,500 plus you burn 2,500 extra calories from the hCG. This results in a total daily loss of up to 4,000 calories per day.  

As a result, patients experience a weight loss of ½ to 1 pound per day during the initial phase of their program. Your metabolism will also reset. Throughout the course of the diet and weight loss program, you will learn healthy habits to maintain the weight. If you continue these techniques, you should not regain the weight after completing your hCG weight loss program. 

What to expect from your hCG diet

Your hCG plan is customized based on your current and target weights. Patients with 15 lbs or less to lose will continue the hCG plus VLCD for 26 days. If you have more than 15 lbs to lose, the treatment takes 40 days. For those that need to lose more than 40 lbs, you must wait 6 weeks before initiating another course of hCG. 

During your first visit, we explain the course, discuss your weight objectives and screen your current health level to ensure that you are suitable for the program. Many of our patients suffer from medical problems and these are carefully screened through a complete history and physical, blood work, and EKG to make sure the treatment is appropriate and safe. We have been able to reduce diabetic and hypertension medications for our patients as they lose weight. 

Once you start the program, you will come to the office weekly for weigh-ins and to meet with a counselor. At that time, we will discuss any concerns and provide guidance on healthy eating habits. You will also be given a Lipotropic injection. We strive to support you as you work toward achieving your goal. 

The injections of hCG operate on the weight regulating center of the brain and stimulate it into weight reduction. This, combined with the weekly support, means that attaining your goal will be easier than you think. Of course, it requires hard work to lose weight. The combination of your efforts, the diet, and the injections stimulates your body’s ability to lose weight.

A maintenance program afterwards for 3-9 months depends on the patient’s ability to keep the weight off. The course of treatment includes provider appointments, B complex monthly, and Lipotropic injections weekly for the first month, biweekly 2nd month, and one time the third month. If a patient is having trouble maintaining their weight, we can extend the maintenance period as needed and decide on the frequency of the lipotropic injections.
