How to Keep Your Skin Healthy While in Quarantine

Many people are in quarantine because of the coronavirus pandemic, so they are avoiding going outside. Even if you are not quarantined and just social distancing, you are still likely spending less time outdoors. Although social distancing and quarantining is in the best interest of everyone, they could cause unintended damage to your skin.

Moisturize

There are several skin issues that you might encounter; the biggest of which is dryness. Perhaps, you’re washing your hands more frequently than before, this could cause skin dryness. Frequent washing disrupts the skin’s outer layer, so it becomes dry.  

Make sure to moisturize your hand more frequently. It is best to moisturize while your skin is still damp because this traps the moisture in the skin. Look for skin products with hyaluronic acid to help promote skin moisture.

Use Sunblock

It is important to use sunblock or lotions with SPF even when you stay indoors. You might think that you don’t need an SPF routine because you’re staying indoors anyway. Unfortunately, UVA light can penetrate through glass doors and windows, and this harsh light can still cause premature aging and skin cancers.  

It is safer to use SPF products even when you’re indoors. And if you are going to get some Vitamin D from sunlight, it is still best to apply SPF products to protect your skin against harsh UV rays.

Avoid Too Much Screen Time

Digital devices radiate blue light, also known as high energy visible (HEV) light. This light has been known to harm the skin, causing wrinkling, premature aging, and dark spots. Bending your head frequently can also cause tech neck. Make sure to minimize the use of digital devices.

Avoid Touching Your Face

Health experts warn against frequent touching of the face. This is one of the easiest ways to spread the coronavirus. But that’s not the only reason why you should avoid touching your face so much. This will result in acne breakouts.

People touch their faces so many times in one day, and it’s hard to stop altogether because people do it automatically and unthinkingly. One way you can avoid touching your face is to use eyeglasses when you’re at home. This will help you avoid touching your face often.

Take Care of Your Skin

Your time at home is not a vacation for your skin as well. You can give your skin a rest from all the harmful products that you need to put on a daily basis. Adopt a simpler yet gentler skin routine. However, be mindful of skin correction routines. People see recurring acne problems because they fail to stick to their routines.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleeping is crucial to overall good health. Adults need to sleep for a total of 7-9 hours a day. The sleep must be continuous, and you must wake up feeling refreshed and alert. If you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases more cortisol, the hormone that causes acne breakout.

Exercise Regularly

Working out helps the body burn cortisone and helps prevent acne. Exercise is also a great way to reduce stress. However, take a bath or shower after working out – or at least make sure to wash your face free from sweat and grime.

Use a Humidifier

With the summer approaching, the heat and indoors can be harsh for the skin. It is common for people to use their air conditioner more often in the summer, but exposure to dry air can cause damage to the skin. You should consider using a humidifier in your home to keep it moist.

Simplify Your Skin Care Routine

Avoid experimental skincare. Do not overdo skin masks and exfoliators just because you have a lot of time in your hands. All that exfoliating can destroy the acid mantle of your skin. 

You don’t want to get rid of the good bacteria and natural oils in your skin. You don’t want your pH levels to spike as this could cause skin issues. Don’t overwash your face. You can stick to once or twice a day to keep the natural oils off your face.

Clean Out Your Skin Care Products

If you check your skincare products, you will probably find tons and tons of beauty products, and many of them may be past their expiry date. You might want to check your products and get rid of items that are expired. These things may have decomposed and may harbor bacteria which can lead to skin infections.
