A deficiency in vitamin C can lead to an impaired immune system, which makes the body susceptible to viral infections. Taking 100-200 mg vitamin C supplements per day could help prevent respiratory ailments.

Vitamin C will be best taken in two or three smaller doses. It comes abundant in fresh fruits and vegetables like kiwi, pineapple, and broccoli. This vitamin is water-soluble, so it is not stored in the body, so people need to eat foods rich in vitamin C to meet their nutritional needs.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is crucial to your body’s ability to fight off bacteria and viruses. People with vitamin D concentrations in their bodies are less likely to get sick or acquire respiratory infections. This vitamin D can help fight off acute respiratory infections.  

The best sources of vitamin D include fatty fish, mushrooms, egg yolks, fortified milk, and supplements. The ideal intake is 1,000 IU a day. You can also get vitamin D from exposure to sunlight.

Ginseng

COVID-1 is particularly dangerous when it infects the elderly as well as people suffering from obesity and illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, cancer, and others. Ginseng, however, can help improve respiratory infections in the elderly population. It contains strong antioxidants that could help reduce inflammation and strengthen the body’s immune system.

Ginseng is most effective when it is taken 2 hours before a meal. The ideal intake for ginseng is 2000 mg a day.

Garlic
