Have you recently undergone surgery or are recovering from an injury and looking for a way to speed up the healing process? Give PRP – Platelet-Rich Plasma at Metrolina Medical Associates a try!
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is simply a liquid that contains more blood platelets than is typically found in a normal sample of blood. These platelets are very important in the blood clotting process. PRP is known for healing injuries or other physical traumas. PRP is created by drawing blood and separating the platelets through a process called centrifugation. The concentration that is left over is the mixed back in with the blood to have a higher platelet count.
How does PRP work?
The increased concentration of blood platelets helps speed up the healing process associated with injuries. It can be done in one of 2 ways: injecting PRP into the injured area or improving the healing process after surgery for specific injuries. Sometimes a topical numbing solution is applied before injection. You may also use a local anesthetic depending on the location of the injection.
What can PRP be used for?
- Chronic Tendon Injuries
- Acute Ligament and Muscle Injuries
- Knee Arthritis
- Hair Loss
