at least two weeks in advance of any special events.

You’ll be asked to avoid Aspirin products and medications such as Ibuprofen a week before treatments.

Treatments usually last around
20-45 minutes.

Expect a mild pinch as the treatment
gets underway.

It take approximately 1-2 weeks for the treatment to take effect.

You should avoid heavy exercise for the remainder of the day.

Stay in an upright position for 4-6 hours post-injection.

Unless otherwise instructed, do not massage or stimulate the treated area.

How Does Botox® Cosmetic Work?

During treatment, very low doses of Botox® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for the movement. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, Botox® Cosmetic enables them to relax. The effects are very localized and, when administered by an experienced physician, do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression. Botox® Cosmetic is the only product of its kind that has been approved for use in this area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Causes Frown Lines Between the Brows?

The lines that appear between your brows actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. When powerful muscles between the brows contract, they draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines.

What is the Treatment Like?

Botox® Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure consisting of a few tiny injections. We will determine exactly where to administer these injections to achieve the best results for you. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes, and there is no downtime afterward. Discomfort is minimal and brief. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/swelling may be associated with the injection.

Will I Still Be Able to Make Facial Expressions?

Although you should see a marked improvement, a treatment with Botox® Cosmetic does not make you look like you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes lines is simply reduced.

In what areas is Botox® administered?

Botox is administered for the following: Frown Lines, Crow’s feet, Forehead Lines, and Dimples in the Chin. You can have several areas treated in one session, and discomfort as well as recovery time is minimal.

Should I Avoid any Medications Afterwards?

Over the counter medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and some herbal medicines may increase the risk and/or worsen bruising. You may be instructed to avoid these medications unless prescribed by your physician. Discuss ALL current and new medications with your injector prior to treatment. You may be instructed to refrain from alcohol consumption for 24 hours. If bruising does occur you may use arnica montana as directed by your injectionist.

The Skinny on Botox®

Facial lines or wrinkles are caused, to an extent, by muscle action. When a small amount of purified Botulinum Toxin is injected into a muscle it causes weakness of that muscle, leading to improvement or disappearance of frown lines, glabella, forehead and crow’s feet.

Botox® affects the component of the line that is caused by muscle action. The clinical effect usually first appears 2-7 days after treatment and Longevity depends on your body’s metabolism, and if you received the recommended number of units for specific areas. It usually lasts 2 1/2 – 3 months, but can be shorter or longer. Botox® is still in its correction phase for up to 2 full weeks. Therefore, additional Botox® will not be injected in the same area until after this time frame.

Lines present at rest may or may not improve. Aging, heredity, and sun damage account for the facial lines and wrinkles and may be treated with a chemical peel, skin care products, neck or facelift. Larger muscle groups require more Botox®. Repeat injections are necessary to maintain effects. It is usually recommended that when you start to see movement, it is time for re-treatment.
